The United Nations in 2010

The United Nations in 2010: Perspectives on the paradigms that shaped UNO, the hesitations observed in its roles in global development, and reflections on political thoughts engaging challenges ahead.

In this book inspired by draft notes for a Guest Lecture in March 2010, CADES (Cultures and Development Studies) Masters Program of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven Institute for Anthropological Research in Africa (IARA), Ludo shares his perspectives on the paradigms used to build and perfect the United Nations Organization (UNO) systems over the past 65 years.

Telling the story, as it were, is fundamental to the survival and transformation of the UNO. A far better understanding of the nature of the obstacles to non-violent social change in today’s world is needed. Without that, conceptualizing and building a “relevant” 3rd generation UN – after the League of Nations and the UNO – is impossible.

“Comparative studies abound. Anthropologists today observe and tell the story. And yet, the UN has not "transformed" because it did not use the new knowledge in an integral way.”
